Seasonal Notes: |
|
The season is Epiphany, which lasts from Jan 6 to
whenever the date Ash Wednesday falls on. Epiphany can be a long or short
season, depending upon the date of Easter. The parament color is Green.
Epiphany also includes the 'gesima' Sundays (not used in ELW) of
Septuagesima, Sexagesima, and Quinquagesima--these Sundays with the odd
names refer to seventy, sixty, and 50 days (approximately) before Easter.
(The number of days is actually more than that; Lent is 40 days long but
Sundays aren't counted as they are ALWAYS remembrances of the
Resurrection. In practical terms, Ash Wednesday falls 40 days before Palm
Sunday. |
