God's Work, Our Hands - Opportunities to Serve in September

We will be kicking off the program year with service projects, as we join together with ELCA churches all across the country to participate in “God’s Work Our Hands”.  We offer numerous opportunities for involvement!  The service projects are our kick-off to our educational year, so we encourage families to come help, but really invite ALL families of ALL ages – so no matter who you are or if your family is one or twenty, please pick a project and time and join us!

First opportunities start on Saturday, September 8th.  Come help serve “Food for Friends” at the Salvation Army from 11:30am until approximately 1:30pm or sign up to spend an hour or two at the CTK booth anytime between 12-5pm at Mankato Pridefest.   For interest in Food for Friends, talk to Todd Lundquist or Pastor Trish, and for Pridefest check in with Nancy Patterson, Emma Norland, or Pastor Patrick.

On Sunday, September 9th we will have several things happening after our 9:30am worship service – beginning approximately 10:15am.  So, just stick around after worship and help!  The Justice and Peace Commission will be spearheading a group to go out and walk the ditches.  If you stay at church, you’ll be able to help put together school kits and backpacks for local and global partners, or bake some cookies for distribution to others.

On Wednesday, September 12th we invite you to join us at 5:30pm (come and eat at 5:00pm, first!) to put together “blizzard boxes” for Lutheran Social Services.  The “blizzard boxes” are distributed to Meals on Wheels recipients to be used on days winter weather precludes delivery, and consist of some food staples as well as a note of cheer.  We will also be making/signing cards to send off to our college students as they begin a new school year. And if we don’t finish our projects before worship starts at 6:15pm we will finish them up afterwards, at 7pm.
