Adult Ministries

Wednesday Book Group

This group meets each Wednesday (September – May) at 11:00 a.m. to read and discuss books that focus both on current spiritual issues as well as historical religious themes.  We have read books by Rudolph Bultman, Karl Bart, Deitrich Bonhoeffer, Thomas Aquinas and others like them.  Topics can be a bit challenging at times, but we wade into them together.  We are currently reading former President Jimmy Carter’s book Faith – A Journey For AllNew members are always welcome.

Thursday Morning Book Study

The Thursday Morning Book study meets each week from 7:30 to 8:30 AM.  The group chooses a book by consensus, and then reads together, discussing content, questions and ideas during their time together.  Selections are made from a wide variety of religious works.  Some of their recent selections have been: The Case for God, by Karen Armstrong; Outlaw Christian: Finding Authentic Faith by Breaking the Rules, by Jacqueline Bussie; and The Resurrection of Jesus, John Dominic Crossan and N.T. Wright in Dialogue, edited by Robert B. Stewart.

New members are welcome to join at any time, and it’s easy to drop in/keep up with the group’s reading.  No outside work is necessary.

Hilltoppers

Hilltoppers is an adult ministry of Christ the King that meets the third Tuesday of month (September - May) for unique programs, lunch and fellowship.  Programs begin at 11:00am followed by lunch and conversation.  This year’s line-up of programs includes our annual German dinner, The Music of Love in February, a visit from Mankato’s out-going Mayor Erick Anderson, a program on the Welsh settlements in the Mankato area by Bob Douglas, as well as other interesting and entertaining offerings.  Please watch the monthly newsletter and weekly Good News for more information about up-coming programs.

Theology on the Ave

Theology on the Ave is an adult ministry that takes place Wednesday evenings from 7:10PM to 8PM at Tav on the Ave. We take the Scripture reading from the Wednesday night worship, along with the sermon, and mash them together with spirited conversation. No preparation or advance work necessary; just come with a curiosity and willingness to share where you see God’s proclamation intersecting with our world and your daily life. You can email Pastor Patrick with questions at patrickp@ctkmankato.org.
